What is Antinatalism ? The Basics of the Philosophy

Antinatalism is a philosophical position that states that birth is a bad thing. The word antinatalism simply means “anti-birth” and it stems from the belief that human beings should not be born. This line of thinking is usually rooted in the idea that human life is pointless or meaningless. The concept has been around for centuries and it has recently gained a lot of traction in the western world in particular. The main reason for this is because of several popular movies and TV series that have explored themes like whether there’s life after death, why we live and die, or if there are any consequences to our actions after we’re gone. In this article, we'll explore the basics of Antinatalist philosophy while also discussing its pros and cons so you can make an informed decision about whether or not you should adopt it as your own outlook on life.

What is Antinatalism and why is it a problem?

Antinatalism is a belief system that states that people should not be born. This sounds like an absurdly extreme view, right? Well, it might surprise you to learn that there are people who hold this view. In fact, some people believe that since we are not supposed to be born, they would be better off if they don’t exist. If you think that this is an extreme position, it may be worth keeping in mind that not too long ago, many people actually held this belief system.

The Philosophical Basis of Antinatalism

The majority of the people who believe in Antinatalism are usually atheists who don’t believe that humans have a purpose, regardless of what religion they may have. If you have a religious background you may still feel that there is a point to human existence or that it still has some sort of purpose behind it. However, for many, this is a very difficult concept to grasp and it is certainly a controversial notion. The reason why many people adopt this view is that they want to completely eliminate their sense of guilt and they believe that they should not be punished for what they have done. If there is no punishment then there is no need to feel bad about yourself and you’ll be more accepting of your own actions. For example, many Antinatalists believe that they should not be punished for being born. If they don’t exist, then there’s no point in regretting anything that you’ve done, so there’s no point in feeling bad about it.

Why do some people adopt Antinatalist Views?

There are many people who have adopted the Antinatalist philosophy for various reasons. Some people do it for ethical reasons, while others do it for religious reasons. The common thread that runs through all of these people is that they are fully aware of the fact that they are making a very big decision to not be born and they’re genuinely okay with that. In fact, some of them even secretly hope that they don’t get born so that they do not have to suffer at all. The most common reasons why people adopt the Antinatalist philosophy are because they are an atheist, they want to completely eliminate their sense of guilt, or they hope that they don’t get born.

The Pros of Adopting an Anti-Birth Philosophy

- It’s an easy way out - If you decide to adopt Antinatalism as your philosophy, you can simply avoid worrying about the fact that you’ll die one day. No one will ever make you feel bad if you decide to not be born and no one will ever make you feel bad if you decide to be born. This is usually the main advantage that people see when they decide to adopt Antinatalism. - You won’t have any regrets - There are many people who believe that if you don’t exist, then there’s no point in regretting anything at all. This is a very simple and straightforward way of thinking about life and it doesn’t require you to think about any complicated issues or ponder about the meaning of your life. You simply don’t exist and that’s it.

Conclusion

The fact is that we don’t know exactly what happens when we die. It may be the case that we simply stop existing, or it may be that we simply continue to exist in some form. We do know, however, that when we’re alive we feel pain and suffer, and we also cause harm to the Earth and other living things. The question is whether these things matter at all, or whether they’re simply a part of life that we have to deal with and that we should accept. The good news is that you don’t have to make any decisions about these things. All you have to decide is whether you want to exist or not.
